Crispy Sesame Falafels

516

Here is my favourite Falafel recipe! They are so flavourful, hearty and filling, yet light and crispy.

I love sesame seeds but if you’re not a fan, feel free to leave them when rolling the mixture.

I like to fry my falafels but if you are looking for a lower calorie option, then baking them works too but they are a little dryer that way. I would suggest – baking them for 25-30 minutes (or until golden brown) at 180°C.

Important note – Do not, I repeat do not use canned chickpeas, they won’t turn out the same! If you are worried about the extra time it takes to soak your own chickpeas, trust me, it’s so easy and so not time-consuming. I soak mine (as per the packet instructions) right before I go to bed, and when I wake up I drain them and put them in the fridge until ready to use! Actually making the falafels is about a 15-20 minute process – no effort involved!

Another important note – When I say soaked dried chickpeas, I don’t mean soaked and boiled. Don’t cook your chickpeas. Only soak them. Cooking them will ruin the texture and we don’t want a mushy mess 🙂
